The latest Women’s Future Tours Programme (FTP) for 2025-29, announced by the ICC, brings a landmark evolution in women’s cricket. Not only will we see more Test matches and frequent tri-series tournaments, but the FTP will also debut Olympic cricket in 2028, with women’s cricket included in the Los Angeles Games for the first time. With more than 400 matches scheduled across formats, plus an ICC event every year, this FTP cycle is packed with action and growth opportunities for the women’s game.

Key Highlights of the Women’s FTP 2025-29

  1. Increased Test Matches and Multi-Format SeriesTeams are committed to playing more Test matches, with powerhouse Australia leading the way, scheduled for eight Tests over the next four years. Their multi-format series against teams like England, India, South Africa, and the West Indies will feature Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. Notably, the West Indies Women are set to make their Test return after two decades with home Tests against Australia and England, and an away Test against South Africa.

  2. Olympic Cricket and New ICC EventsThe 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles will include cricket, marking a historic first for women’s cricket on this stage. Alongside Olympic cricket, the women’s FTP will feature annual ICC events: the ODI World Cup in India in 2025, the T20 World Cup in the United Kingdom in 2026, and the first-ever Women's Champions Trophy in 2027 with six teams.

  3. ODI Championship Pathway to World Cup 2029The ICC Women’s ODI Championship continues as the primary pathway for qualification to the 2029 ODI World Cup. Eleven teams, including Zimbabwe as a new entrant, will participate, playing 132 matches across 44 bilateral series of three ODIs each.

  4. Exclusivity Windows for Major T20 LeaguesIn a big win for players and fans, the FTP provides exclusive windows for leading T20 leagues: Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), The Hundred, and India’s Women’s Premier League (WPL). The WPL is set to shift to a January-February window from 2026, aligning with Australia’s home season moving back a month to accommodate this change. This structure ensures maximum participation in premier leagues worldwide and strengthens the women’s T20 landscape.
