Neeraj Chopra shares an emotional farewell with coach Klaus Bartonietz, marking the end of a successful journey in athletics.

Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has bid an emotional adieu to his long-time coach, Klaus Bartonietz, following their successful five-year partnership. The German coach, who played a crucial role in guiding Chopra to his historic Tokyo Olympics gold and silver at the Paris Games, has decided to part ways due to personal family commitments. Bartonietz had hinted at his decision to step down earlier this year.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Chopra expressed deep gratitude for his coach's unwavering support and mentorship. “You are more than just a coach to me. Your guidance has shaped me as an athlete and a person,” Chopra wrote, reflecting on the impact of their relationship.

Chopra also spoke of the quiet yet powerful presence of his coach during competitions. "Though you were always quiet in the stands, your words to me spoke the loudest. I will miss not just the lessons, but the camaraderie we shared as a team."

Bartonietz, originally hired as a biomechanics expert, later became Chopra’s full-time coach after Uwe Hohn’s departure from the Indian setup. Under his guidance, Chopra achieved numerous successes, including becoming World Champion, Diamond League Champion, and an Asian Games gold medallist.

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has confirmed that they will appoint a new coach for Chopra by the end of the year, as they begin the next phase of his career.
