His departure on 68 didn’t hinder Australia’s progress, though, as Head continued his solid knock, reaching his fifth Test fifty against India, and his second consecutive fifty in this series. His steady performance ensured Australia took the lead in the first session.
India faced further frustration when a close LBW call against Mitchell Marsh was turned down on review. The third umpire ruled that there wasn’t conclusive evidence to prove whether Ashwin’s ball had struck the bat or pad first, despite several replays suggesting it had hit the pad. India lost the review, further adding to their morning woes.
